Caesar’s Tower

Towering above the Château, and constructed by Henri II Plantagenet, it was built between 1130 and 1170. Caesar’s Tower is the oldest vaulted cylindrical donjon in France.

The Château

In the last quarter of the 13th century, the Château was constructed by Pierre de la Brosse and then later completed by king Philip III and King Philip IV. The Château, originally with vast open rooms, has sculpted and painted frameworks still visable, and a terrace of 1400 m2 which overhangs the valley, is a forefather to the famous Chateaux of the Loire.

Collegiate Church (Minster) of St Aoustrille,

is today called the church of Notre-Dame, and was built during the 12th century. Architecture of major interest is the superb sculpted porch, the columns, the high relief on the gable of the south crosspiece showing Christ in His majesty, the intersecting ribs of the transept arch, and the high nave with four spans.
